During a confrontation with a pro-Palestinian demonstrator, Kessler fell backward and struck his head on the ground, according to deputies. The pro-Palestinian demonstrator stayed at the scene and told deputies he had called 911. The Sheriff’s Office has said investigators received conflicting information from witnesses on both sides about what took place, impairing witness credibility and making it difficult to prove a case beyond a reasonable doubt.
