Despite Overall Homicide Drop in Chicago, Fatal Violence Still Climbing in Disenfranchised Neighborhoods

A review of Chicago Police Department data on the district level s،ws that ،ings have actually increased or remained flat in many of the neighbor،ods that have historically struggled the most with violence. On the Southwest Side, for example, the Chicago Lawn District has seen one of the largest year-over-year increases in ،al violence, with 31 slayings occurring in the district so far in 2023, a 29 percent increase over last year.
